It was a busy week for the Albyn sports teams. It has been great to see so many pupils taking part in co-curricular sport across a range of different sports. The fun and enthusiasm that was on display was infectious for all to see.

On Saturday we saw our first competitive football fixture to be played at Milltimber in over 18 months. Our U1 team hosted Bucksburn Academy, we started very well with William K opening the scoring with only minutes on the clock. Bucksburn came back in to the game strongly with some quick fire goals to regain the lead. The Albyn players rallied well and scored some cracking goals but unfortunately went down to lose to a well drilled Bucksburn Academy team. William K was the star player of the day scoring 4 goals with Archie L adding another. For 6 of the team it was there first time playing an 11 a side match, the team performed brilliantly and learnt a lot which will only help there development for our next fixture. Well done to all involved.

Our hockey teams had an early start as they headed up to Gordonstoun to play our first away hockey match in a very long time. The teams were full of excitement as they couldn’t wait to get out playing. Our U14 team played some wonderful hockey and unfortunately went down 4-1 to a very good Gordonstoun side. Our 2nd XI and 1 XI both produced some brilliant results. Our 2nd XI won their match 3-1 with Anna R being the star of the show scoring all 3 goals. Our 1ST XI came away 4-0 victors and played some fantastic hockey. Many thanks to Gordonstoun for hosting.

Our L6 and L7 relay teams headed down to Grangemouth for the Scottish Primary Schools Road Relays. Our pupils performed very well in what was a very strong competition. To quote a parent who was in attendance at the event “The kids were all fantastic at this event - ran their socks off”. Well done to all involved

Our last bit of news is about the 7 Albyn pupils who took part in the British Laser Run Championships in Solihull. An 8 hour bus journey from Aberdeen on Saturday morning did not stop the pupils drive for success. All 7 performed exceptionally well, some notable performances were Charlotte N who finished 2nd in the U19 competition and Rhys Crawford who was 1st in the U17 competition. This is a terrific achievement in an event that had competitors from all over the UK. Finn B along with Rhys C was also part of the relay team that finished 2nd in the U17 category.

Well done to all our teams and athletes and we look forward to more sporting success stories in the coming weeks.
